Park County Fair Herdsmanship Rules
Being a good Herdsman and a good steward of livestock and agriculture is very rewarding and it takes a lot of hard work. Most of the time it is an everyday job. Bo Gribble was an excellent Herdsman and Steward of livestock and ranching in Park County himself. This award is named in his behalf and is awarded to a great Herdsman each year at the Park County Fair. Rules Herdsmanship honors will be posted every morning at 8:00 AM and every evening at 7:00 PM designating the 4-H members who have observed all the rules the best. Herdsmanship is an individual effort as well as a team effort with others. There is no limit on honors posted. The following Herdsmanship points will be considered; 1. Personal attitude and sportsmanship of herdsman and helpers (manners, showmanship, general public relations). 2. Having the attitude of “Safety First” when handling animals and working with grooming, showing, and barnyard tools around the Fairgrounds and around others. 3. Orderliness and cleanliness of stalls and animals at all times. 4. Promptness of having stalls, aisles, tack areas, and outside grounds cleaned by 8:00 AM and 7:00 PM each day. 5. Promptness of removing blankets or covers from animals by 8:00 AM and leaving them off until 7:00 PM (except for show day). 6. Systematic and neat arrangements of show boxes, tack, hay, feed, etc. and keeping the same in the service alleys. 7. Displaying a sign or banner that identifies the exhibit with correct information and display of awards won at the fair. Educational messages for the public are encouraged. 8. Observance of all rules and regulations set up by the Park County Livestock Committee, Park County Fairboard, and Colorado State Extension Office. 9. Any observance of sabotage by any 4-Her or helpers will constitute in disqualification to all parties involved.
10. Adult help in cleaning will disqualify exhibitor from contest.
